In 2023, ERS was commissioned by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council to undertake a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment for the South Tees area focused on Parental Substance Misuse. This included working alongside key partners such as local authority representatives to gather a wide range of existing data on the issue and analysing the data to establish the prevalence and key elements of the issue in the local area. Our final report focused on a number of topics, such as: the scale of drug use, people accessing treatment, demography of affected groups, support from children’s services, death from substance misuse, hospital admissions, and the role of each local authority in providing effective support. This rapid evidence review allowed us to establish a comprehensive overview of the need in the South Tees region, enabling us to make evidence-based recommendations for improving support.
